What should the mattress lifespan be? 5 years? 10 years? Mattress technology has come a long way, and the mattresses we buy today are a lot sturdier than they were just a decade or two ago. There are some mattress manufacturers that will guarantee their products for 20 or 50 years! So why does most everyone still recommend replacing a mattress every 5 to 7 years?

It’s not something you like to think about very often, but our beds see a lot of bacteria over the years. Dead skin cells fall from our bodies as we sleep, and dust mites chow down. Dust mite fecal material collects, the bacteria flourishes, and before you know it your bed is a health hazard. Sleeping in that environment is no good for us in the long term, and this is why most mattresses need to be replaced so quickly.
